It’s the fifth grader’s favorite time of the year, the time for BizTown. They attended BizTown on Friday, January 22.
BizTown is a program that helps kids use what they have learned in the classroom and apply it to the outside world. They have helped around 51,500 students prepare for the adult world.
BizTown lets the children experience what it’s like to work in the real world. Every student will have a job they will manage. They will perform their job during the day so that the business they work for will be successful. There will be many different businesses to choose from, like Bank of Oklahoma, Ricoh, Cancer Treatment Center, Cox Communication, Cherokee Phoenix ( newspaper), and much more.
Each student will be paid for their jobs in BizTown money, for them to spend while they are there. The students will be learning how to handle paychecks and banking, as well as the different features of running a business and costumer service.
Fifth grade teacher Mrs. Parrett said, “The fifth graders are very excited about this opportunity to experience ‘running a town’ by fifth graders.”
