Nowata High School Counselor, Sherry Wilson takes students to visit college campuses every year. So far the students have toured Oklahoma State University on September 22nd and The University of Oklahoma September 25th. Ms. Wilson attends a counselor luncheon while the students tour the campus and have their questions answered. Students leave the universities excited and ready to go to college.
Mrs. Wilson has been taking students on college trips for five years, this is her sixth. She estimates that she’s been on around 35 trips. The next few college trips will be NSU, Pittsburg State, NEO, and RSU. Mrs. Wilson says she would describe the trips as very important for the students because they can see a college campus and get excited about it. “We meet up with former students attending the college and I buy the former students lunch. The students get to hear what real college kids think of the school and what to expect.” Six kids attend each trip to different campuses and get to see firsthand what college is like. “I’m very thankful our school board and superintendent allows me to take the students to visit the campuses. it’s so important for them to be exposed to higher education and see the possibilities for their futures” stated Mrs. Wilson
