Katy Maggard is a sixth and seventh grade math teacher at Nowata Middle School and this is her eleventh year of teaching. Maggard graduated from Waukomis High School in Waukomis, OK, where she was salutatorian of her graduating class. She then went to college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She transferred to Oklahoma University in Norman with a goal to major in meteorology, instead she graduated from Oklahoma University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Math. Afterwards, she went to University of Tulsa and earned a Master’s Degree in Finance.
Maggard’s first year of teaching was teaching math at a rough school in Tulsa, followed by five years also as a math teacher at Owasso, then moved to Nowata, still to teach math.
Katy and her husband, Ronnie, have been married for almost twelve years. Together, they have two children, Addison, who is nine and Ella, who is three. Katy says they love to do stuff as a family. She specifically likes to read, watch movies and loves college basketball.
Maggard says she likes being at Nowata because Nowata reminds her of her hometown, very small and close families. She also said, “I’ve always wanted to be in an environment like Nowata, it is what I am used to, grew up with and knew what to expect. I enjoy teaching my students and watching them grow!”
