Coach Cory James has been announced to be Nowata Ironmen’s new head football coach! Coach James has been at Nowata for six years helping defensive coaching and has now accepted the position as head coach for the 2016-17 school year. James has been into football since he was in high school, where he played in the Enid Plainsmen. He continued his career in football at Southwestern College, where he played quarterback for the Moundbuilders of Southwestern and was part of two conference championship teams in 1999 and 2000 before graduating in 2004.
After his playing career, James started his coaching career as head freshman coach and varsity assistant at Tulsa Memorial High School. The next year, he took over offensive coordinator duties for the Chargers on Friday nights. James took the offensive coordinating position with Nowata Ironmen in 2011. Later that year, he took on the roll as interim head coach for the Ironmen. Over the coarse of the next three years, Coach James took over the defense for the Ironmen. During his time at Nowata’s defensive coordinator, the Ironmen have been one of the best defensive teams in Oklahoma 2A football and was part of four playoff years and the state runner up team in 2014.
