Eleven Nowata Middle School girls participated in cheer camp April 21st through the 23rd. Cheerleading tryouts were held Friday, the 24th. The girls stayed from 3:15 to 5:30 Tuesday through Thursday. During that time, they were taught a new cheer and short dance routine from a hired choreographer. Tryouts started Friday at 4 pm.
“I’m very excited about the upcoming year and was impressed with the abilities that the girls displayed at the cheer camp,” stated Mrs. Wright, middle school cheer coach.
After they learned the cheer and dance, they had to perform in front of two judges from a surrounding Oklahoma high school. All eleven girls made the middle school cheer squad. Moshonie Rice scored high enough to be awarded cheer captain. Paige Atkisson was right behind her and earned co-captain.
“I’m really happy that I get to be on the squad and I think we’re going to be really good this year,” stated Rice.
